ADA F.A.Q.
(Frequently Asked Questions)
MEMBERSHIP | GENERAL INFO | DIVE RESERVATIONS
Q: I'm interested in joining your club or would like more information. How do I do this?
A: We have a membership package that we send out
via "snail" mail. Just email your NAME and PHYSICAL MAILING ADDRESS
to our membership chairman: membership@activedivers.org,
and ask for a Membership Package to be sent to you.
Q: Where and when are your meetings?
A: We are so busy diving we don't have time for meetings, but we have
BBQs, parties, dinners, etc. These are a great way to meet our members
and get to know us. Check our newsletter for current events and
upcoming social activities.
Q: I live outside of South Florida or outside the United States but sometimes dive in your area. Can I still join your club?
A: Yes! We have several members who live outside of South Florida, some as far away as England. The only stipulation is that members outside of the United States must receive our newsletter by email. International postage costs prohibit us from sending newsletters outside the U.S. via regular mail.
Q: Can you send me a copy of your newsletter?
A: Our newsletter is available online in the Adobe
Acrobat format. You can access it here: Online
Newsletter. If you cannot view the online newsletter you can request a paper
copy by emailing our membership chairman: membership@activedivers.org.
Q: I would like to dive with you once to see how it goes. Do I have to
be a member first?
A: Yes. For legal reasons all divers must be a member in good standing
and sign a waiver before their first dive.
Q: Where do you dive?
A: EVERYWHERE!!! Actually we dive somewhere different every weekend.
In the S. Florida area our favorites are Tavernier, Islamorada, Key
Largo, Elliott Key, Miami Beach, Hollywood, Lauderdale, Boca, Boynton,
Pompano, West Palm, and Jupiter. We also travel to the Bahamas, Mexico,
Caymans, Australia, Fiji, Maldives, Truk, Palau, and many others.
Q: What dive shops do you recommend?
A: Basically the one nearest you. They all do a good job and we support
most of them and they support us.
Q: Where is the best place to dive?
A: Depends on your interests- if you like wrecks, try Miami Beach, for
big fish we like Pompano, for beautiful coral Elliott Key and
Islamorada. One notch above these is the Caribbean, and five notches
above is the Pacific.
Q: Where is the best place to get certified or advanced training?
A: Depends on your goals. To throughly learn a skill or understand a
subject it takes time and effort. Most colleges and universities offer
extensive training and courses. If you are on a tight time budget. the
dive shops offer shorter courses.
Q: I am a beginner/advanced diver. Do you have dives that fit my
experience level?
A: Yes, about half of our dives are suitable for all levels, what we
call basic dives. These are in shallow (20-40') water with little or no
currents and no special hazards. Other dives are advanced, in water
>60' and are restricted to divers with experience. (see our newsletter
article "For All Advanced Dives....")
Q: I haven't dived in a long time. What do you suggest?
A: If you can, take a refresher course at your local dive shop. If not,
sign up for one of our basic dives and inform our Safety Officer that
you may be rusty. He will dive with you and make sure all goes well.
